Thursday's Games - 7/24Post 25 Middletown Firehawks 5, Stahl Post 30 - 4: (Wilson Field)
Post 25 scored 5 runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead, then held on to get the win.
In that 5th Inning, Jay Croft doubled to bring in two runs for Post
25, and Brett Cracco hit a single for two more RBI’s. Stahl battled
back in the seventh by loading the bases and putting up two runs, but Post
25’s outfielders (Ballance, Croft and Gerlitz) all robbed Stahl’s
dangerous bats of extra bases with outstanding plays in the field. Brandon
Payne had three RBI’s for Stahl Post. Brad Alexander pitched a
complete game for the win. Brendon Payne doubled for Stahl.
Delvets - 9, R.C. DuPont Post 18 Aviators - 3: (Friends Academy) R.C. Dupont struck first in the 2nd inning
with 3 runs led by a double by Greg Rostick, 3 walks and an RBI single by Dan Kowal.
After that Delvet's Mike Godwin shut down the RC offense.
In the bottom of the 2nd Delvets answered by sending 11 batters to the
plate and scoring 6 runs off R.C. Dupont ace Will Stratton. In the
inning, the Delvets were led by 2 hits by Mike Godwin and a triple by
Curtis Wallace. Delvets offense stayed on top the rest of the game, led
by Curtis Wallace who had 2 triples, Kevin Hopkins who had a double and
triple and Mike Reardon and Mike Godwin with 2 hits.
Delvets pitcher Mike Godwin picked up the win which improved his record to (6-0).
RC was led offensivly by Kip Skibiki and Dan Kowal with 2 hits each.
The win propells Delvets to the top of the point standings, and clinches first place in the North.
Delaware Post 1 - 8, Oak Grove Thunder - 3: (McKean HS) Alex Riley struck 9 to get the win.
Oak Grove started the game with a lead off single by John Longo and followed with a one
out walk to Angelo Rodrigiuez who both scored on a double by Sam Manelski. Post
#1 starter Alex Riley then shut the door on OG by not allowing another hit the
rest of the game. Alex had 9 strike outs while allowing 4 walks. Mike Flanigan
had a rbi double while Alex Riley, Jason Gaito, and Bill Crowe all scored two
runs for Post #1.
Tuesday's Games - 7/22
Post 6 Patriots - 7, Post 3 Milford Red Sox - 6: (Seaford HS) The Red Sox jumped out to an early 2 run lead as Post 6 Pitcher Korey
Hearn struggled with the strike zone. Hearn gave up 6 walks in two
innings leading to 3 Milford runs.
But Milford's Jordan Elliot also struggled with control in the bottom
of the 2nd, giving up 4 walks. All four runners scored including two on
Seth Hastings 2 out single. Earlier runs had scored when Tyler Ruark
walked with the bases loaded, and Trent Passwaters scored on a wild
pitch. The Patriots added another run in the 3rd and two more in the
4th to take a 7-3 lead, as Steve Sharff continued in control.
But in the 6th inning, Sharff walked two batters, then with one out,
Matt Millman lined a double to center, scoring two runs. Elliot struck
out then Whalen Hunter singled to left to score Millman and the inning
ended with the score 7-6.
Lance Kelly came on to close the game for the Patriots. He got the
first batter, but David Michael singled to left and Adam Darling
walked. Josh Campos then singled to right, but RF Tyler Ruark came up
throwing, catching Michael trying to score on a direct toss to home.
Jon Michael struck out to end the game.
Matt Millman doubled for Post 3, Lance Kelly for Post 6. Millman batted 2 for 2 with 5 RBIs to lead the Red Sox.
Delvets 4, VFW Pos 3420 - 0:
(Friends Academy) Mike Reardon pitched a complete game with 7K's to
improve to (7-0) on the season. Delvets offense was led by Constantine
Fournaris who had 2 hits including a double, Jon Bacher 2 hits and
Scott Dougherty with 2 RBI's. VFW had 2 hits from Steve Miller.
Post 25 Middletown Firehawks - 9, R.C. Dupont Post 18 - 7: (Smyrna HS) Post 25
worked both sides of the field to defeat the talents of R.C. DuPont in this
close game. Jay Croft pitched a smart seven innings for Post 25, and also hit
two doubles.
David Brower (P25) doubled and singled, bringing in three runs.
Mike Matthews went 3 for 4 for RC duPont, and Dan Kowal scored three of
RC’s seven runs. RC battled back in the top of the seventh by scoring
four runs, but fell short of the win.
Newark 17, Oak Grove Thunder 3: Elsmere Oak Grove got on the board as Newark gave up a
pair of unearned runs in the first off Newark pitcher Austin Bartley.
In the bottom of the first Tyler Husfelt led off with a double, Alex
Woods walked and after a passed ball moved up the runners, Bill Morton
flied out to left scoring Husfelt. After a walk to Andrew Bentley,
Jordan Oncay singled to score Woods. Andrew Young followed with another
walk and Kevin O'Connor singled to score two. With two outs, Steve Heim
singled driving in the sixth run of the inning.
Despite loading the
bases in the second on three walks, Bartley was able to work out of the
inning on an infiueld fly and a pair of strikeouts. In the bottom of
the second Newark's offense picked right up where they left off in the
first, after walks to Oncay and Young, O'Connor and Mike Medori
followed with back to back doubles to score another four runs.
Bartley
took control in the third striking out two of three batters he faced.
Newark struck again in the third taking advantage of a walk to Alex
Woods who then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch
before Bentley hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the only run of
the inning. In the fourth, Young and O'Connor singled, Medori walked,
Fielding Wooters was then hit by a pitch to score pinch runner Rob
Mooney. Husfelt then walked to score O'Connor. Derek Marshallsea then
doubled scoring Medori and Wooters. Daniel Johnson singled to score
Husfelt and Mooney singled scoring Marshallsea to close out the inning.
Derek Marshallsea came on to pitch in the top of the fifth to close out the game
for Newark. The two hits allowed by Newark was the lowest total for the
season as Bartley and Marshallsea shut down the visitors in a key
divisional game for Newark.
Stahl Post 30 - 9, Delaware Post 1 - 3: (Wilson
Field) 2B: P1-Riley Stahl-Martin Brandon Payne had 2
hits including an inside the park home run for 3 RBI's with Dave Martin
hitting a 2 RBI double.
Fox Post 2 - 4, Post 28 Warriors - 0: (Indian River HS)
Monday's Game - 7/21
Fox Post 2 - 12, Post 25 Middletown Firehawks - 6:
(Smyrna HS) Post 25 jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings of play, but Fox Post battled back
in the third and fourth and scored five runs to gain the lead, which they
maintained for the rest of the evening.
Adam Poplos went 3 for 4 and scored
twice for Post 25, Elliot Stein tripled, while Jimmy Brittingham went 3 for 3 for Post 2, doubled and scored
three runs. Will Ross also tripled for Post 2. Both teams were flawless in the field, but Post 2’s bats
prevailed to give them the win. The game officially ended (last meeting of these teams) after six innings of
play due to darkness.
Sunday's Game - 7/20:
Newark 14, Delvets 3: (St Mark's HS) Delvets jumped out to a two run lead in the first as
Jake Stout walked and Jon Bacher homered off Newark pitcher Bill
Morton. Newark got on the board with a double by Tyler Husfelt to lead
off the bottom of the first. Ryan Vietri moved him to third on a
sacrifice bunt and Bill Morton hit a hard grounder to third that
couldn't be handled scoring Husfelt.
After a 1-2-3 inning in the top of
the second, Newark exploded sending 13 batters to the plate and chasing
Delvets starter Grube. With one out, Austin Bartley hit a solo home run
to get the inning started. Steve Heim and Rob Mooned singled and Tyler
Husfelt and Ryan Vietri walked. Derek Marshallsea was safe on an error
then Bill Morton walked then Jordan Oncay singled driving in two. Kevin
O'Connor and Steve Heim then walked forcing in another run before
Delvets got out of the inning.
In the fourth, Austin Bartley led off
with a single and after a pop out, Rob Mooned was hit by a pitch. with
two out, Ryan Vietri singled scoring two. Derek Marshallsea and Bill
Morton walked and Jordan Oncay was safe on an error at shortstop that
closed out the scoring. Bill Morton pitched five strong innings for
Newark scattering five hits, striking out four and walking three for
the win.
Saturday's Games - July 19th
Post 6 - 6, Post 25 Middletown Firehawks - 1: Game 1: (Seaford HS) Eric Sharff picked up his 2nd win on a five hitter Saturday
afternoon. Sharff gave up one unearned run, struck out 7, and walked only 2 batters in the game.
Trent Passwaters and Matt Parker doubled for the Patriots. Dustin
Richards batted 2 for 3 and had two stolen bases. Post 25 turned 3
double plays in 7 innings.
Post 6 - 5, Post 25 Middletown Firehawks - 1: Game 2: (Seaford HS) The Patriots' Tyler Ruark, Dustin Richards and Steve Sharff
combined on a 5 hitter to take the 2nd game of the double header in
Seaford Saturday. Ruark only had thrown 6 balls in the first two
innings, but lost control in the 3rd. Jay Croft doubled in the
Firehawk's only run off Ruark.
Trent Passwaters doubled in two runs in the first inning to give the
Pats a 3 run lead. Matt Parker had 3 stolen bases in the game,
including a back to back steal after which he scored one of the 3 runs
on the day.
Steve Sharff took the mound in relief in the 3rd inning and only
allowed one hit, Jay Poplos' 7th inning double. Poplos was then picked
off 2nd by Sharff to end the game.
R.C. Dupont Post 18 Aviators - 13, Oak Grove Thunder - 2: Game 1: (Brandywine HS) R.C. Dupont thumped Oak Grove Thunder, but Cory Tierney had
a triple in the losing cause. Dain Thorpe tossed a 2 hitter for
R.C. Dupont with 11 strikeouts in the 5 inning game.
Mike Matthews and Greg Rostickeach collected 3 hits in the game;
Matthews with 4 rbi's and Rostick with 3 rbi's and 2 doubles.
Matthews and Rostick also each scored 3 runs.B.J. Suiter chipped in
with 2 hits and 2 rbi's.
R.C. Dupont Post 18 Aviators - 6, Oak Grove Thunder - 5 (8) Game 2: (Brandywine HS) In the second game Oak Grove's
Angelo Rodriguez held the Aviators at bay until the bottom of the 7th inning. Oak Grove led 5 to 3 at that
point on the strong pitching of Rodriguez and 2 hits including a 2 run
homer in the 3rd inning. John Longo also collected 2 hits for Oak Grove.
For
the Aviators, Will Stratton fired a 6 hitter with 11 strikeouts even
though his command was notas sharp as normal but he
seemed to get stronger after Oak Groves' 3run fourth inning and held
them scoreless over the final 4 frames including an extra inning.
Once R.C. tied the game in regulation, he seemed possessed as he threw
an 8 pitch 8th inning to bring the Aviators back to bat.
In the bottom of the 8th, the Aviators took charge as Mike
Matthews lined a double to the gap but was thrown out trying to stretch
the play to 3rd on a great relay by John Longo from the centerfielder.
Then Kip Skibicki lined a single and Greg Rostick drew a walk after
fouling off several pitches. This provided B.J. Suiter with the
opportunity to deliver the game winning hit past 3 base to earn the
doubleheader sweep for Post 18.
Newark - 5, Post 28 Warriors - 3 (Game 1): (St. Mark's HS) Jordan Oncay struck out 9 in four innings work and Ryan
Vietri relieved in the fifth to pick up the win.
Newark bats came
alive in the as Tyler Hufsfelt and Ryan Vietri singled, with one out
Jordan Oncay walked and Andrew Bentley followed with a bases loaded
double driving in three. Kevin O'Connor singled to score Bentley and
the Newark defense shut down Post 28 until the fifth when the Warrior's Tyler Dean
doubled, DJ Long singled, Bo Wilkinson hit an RBI single and Zach Moser
hit another RBI single off Ryan Vietri.
Vietri had to pitch out of trouble
in the top of the 7th after two hit batters, and a pair of walks before
getting Timmy Bokinsky to hit into a force and Shawn Davis to hit into
a game ending double play on a fly ball to Kevin O'Connor in right who
threw out the runner at home.
Newark - 17, Post 28 Warriors - 14 (Game 2): (St Mark's HS) No this isn't a Football Score. Post 28 scored eight runs in the top of the first as
Newark struggled defensively. CJ Bell led off with a double, two outs
later Peter Ott was safe on an error then Post 28 made Newark pay with
three more singles mixed in with another two errors.
Newark came right
back scoring six in the bottom of the first as Bill Morton hit a two
out home run, three walks later, Mike Johnson hit a bases loaded
triple. Mike Medori followed with a double and Derek Marshallsea hit a
single to drive in the sixth run of the inning.
In the third, Newark
loaded the bases with no Warriors out. After giving up RBI walks to Tyler
Husfelt and Austin Bartley, Bill Morton hit a grand slam for his second
home run of the game. In the sixth, Austin Bartley doubled and Bill
Morton hit his third home run of the game to score two.
Kevin O'Connor
and Andrew Bentley singled and Steve Heim hit a line drive to left that
got past the left fielder as he tried to make a diving catch scoring
all three runs.
