Game Independence Day - July 4th
Stahl Post 30 - 10, VFW Post 3420 - 0: (Wilson Field) Stahl Post 30 avenges an earlier loss to VFW Post 3420 at their annual 4th of July Picnic.
Games Thursday 7/3
Post 25 Middletown 9, Oak Grove Thunder 7: [Stanton Middle School] A close game
between two evenly-matched teams saw fans from both bleachers up and down in
their seats.
Solo home runs by Brad Alexander (P25) and Ray Martinez (OG)
contributed to each team’s hard-earned runs, as did triples from Adam
Poplos (P25), Matt Joyce (OG) and Sam Manelski (OG). Alexander went 2 for
2 on the evening, walked twice and scored three times for Post 25. Andrew
Fortner came in relief of Pat Hoye to pitch three scoreless innings for Post 25
before Ryan Gerlitz closed the seventh inning for the save.
Newark at Delvets - 4, Newark - 3: (Friends Academy) Delvets led 2-0 going into the 7th but Newark scored 3 unearned runs to take the lead.
Delvets came back in the bottom of the 7th and loaded the bases with no
outs. Jarad Carney scored the tying run on a wild pitch by Bill Morton.
Morton than walked Jake Stout to reload the bases with no outs in a tie
game. Harrison Grube suicide squeezed Curtis Wallace home with the
winning run in an exciting game played at Friends.
Mike Reardon improved to 4-0 with the victory. Mike Godwin smoked a
triple in the 4th to start the Delvets scoring. Alex Woods had 3 hits
for Newark.
Stahl Post 30 -12, R.C. Dupont Post 18 - 6: (Brandywine HS) Stahl Post 30 their domination of teams out of the Central division, ahead of their 4th of July game Friday.
Delaware Post 1- 4, VFW Post 3420 - 1: (Glasgow
HS) VFW Post 3420 jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but couldn't hold on
despite a great pitching effort by Dennis Massuri.
Lefty Randy Ewing pitched a complete game allowing 2 hits and
one run, striking out 5 as he got the win. Chris Fols went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's for Post 1.
Left handed pitcher Dennis Massuri struck out 11 in 6 innings of work but took the loss in this battle of "lefties."
Games Wednesday -7/2
R.C. Dupont Post 18 Aviators - 7, DE Post 1 - 3: [McKean HS] The Aviator's Will Stratton pitches a 3 hitter with 9 strikeouts. Kip
Skibicki hit 2 homeruns one to left about 350 and one to dead center
about 385 ft. Bill Crowe had 2 hits for Post 1. Mike Matthews, Brian
Manalo, and Dan Kowal all had multi-hit games for R.C.
Delvets - 5, Oak Grove Thunder - 3: [Friend's
Academy] Delvets scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th on a Kevin
Hopkins RBI triple into the parking lot to pull out the win and to jump
to the top of Northern Division.
Angelo Rodriguez single handily kept Oak Grove in the game crushing 2
long triples and scoring 2 of their 3 runs but Delvets' Tim Rosser and
Mike Godwin both had 2 hits including doubles to help their offense
pull out a tough win.
Andrew Baczkowski pitched 4 strong innings only giving up 2 runs and
Constantine Fournaris came in and pitched 3 strong innings of relief only giving up 1 run to pick up the win.
Games Tuesday's 7/1:
Delaware Post 1 - 12, R.C. Dupont Post 18 - 2:
Newell
notched his 1st win of the year allowing 2 unearned runs, 6 hits.
walked 2 and struck out 4. Alex Riley went 3for 4 with 2 rbi's,Andrew
Cini went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's, Tom Crist went 2 for 4, Doubles by
Riley, Flanigan, Cini, and Crist.
Delvets 3, Oak Grove Thunder 0: Mike Godwin pitched a complete game shut-out giving up
4 hits while striking out 10. Kevin Hopkins scored twice while Sam Cochran went
2-3 scoring once. Nick Caifre hit a double for Oak
Grove.
Newark - 16, Post 25 Middletown - 12 (8): This
up
and down battle had fans from both bleachers on the edges of their
seats as both teams were evened up at 12 runs at the end of regulation
innings. A three-run shot by Ryan Gerlitz (P25), and a homer by Bill Morton (N)
kept the adrenaline flowing. As Newark entered the eighth inning with some
light still remaining, they were able to put up four runs before making three
outs, which forced Post 25 into playing in the bottom of the
eighth. The Umpires allowed the game to continue, but Post 25 was
unable to battle the post-sundown conditions at 8:50 pm and lost a key Divisional
battle, snapping their winning streak.
Post 28 Warriors - 10, Post 3 Milford Redsox - 2: Post 28's
Trevor Abbott pitched a 7 inning 6 hitter with 7 strikeouts to lead the
Warriors over Milford at Milford. Post 28's Mike Casale batted 3
for 3, Peter Ott doubled and hit a home run. Josh Lee batted 3 for 4,
and Bo Wilkinson batted 2 for 3.
Devon Reed homered for Milford, 5 players singled in the losing cause.
Fox Post 2 - 8, Post 6 Patriots 3: [Reed Field] Fox Post 2 loaded the bases to start the 4th inning on an error,
Parker Derrick's double, then three back to back walks to Danny Gatto,
Ron Rossi and Joey Babuca plated 3 runs. Will Ross singled in two
more, then scored on Tony Gatto's single, making the score 7-0.
Steve Sharff doubled in 2 runs in the 7th, and Lance Kelly walked with
the bases loaded to score one more, but a pop up ended the game with
the bases loaded for Post 6.
Randy Hurd and Derrick Parker both doubled for Fox Post 2. Parker
batted 3 for 4 in the game. Both Post 2's Joe Diana and Post 6's Korey
Hearn had 4 strikeouts in the game.

Post 3 Milford Red Sox at Oak Grove Thunder:
Game 1: Oak Grove Thunder 10, Post 3 Milford Redsox - 5: Oak Grove put together a two out six run rally in the home
half of the sixth inning. Kyle Maloney started the scoring with a 2 RBI single,
follow by Frank Devonshire 2 RBI double. Oak Grove sent 11 batters to the plate in the
sixth. Winning Pitcher Sam Manelski hit a solo HR in the second inning. He
scattered seven hits and struck out six for his first win. Conner Luff tripled and Devon Reed Doubled for Milford.
Game 2: Milford Redsox 7, Oak Grove Thunder 5: Milford's
Jordon Elliott led off the top of the seventh inning with a triple and
scored on a single by Jimmy Ibach to tie the game. Milford scored twice
in the eigth Inning for the win. Post 3's starting pitcher Jordon
Elliott went the distance striking out 17 batters while only walking 3,
he also batted 2 for 4 with that Triple. Devon Reed also doubled for
Post 3. Lee Bourdon had a solo HR for Oak Grove while starter Matt
Joyce went 6 full innings striking out 13.

Game 1: Delvets -3, Fox Post 2 - 2:
Harrison Grube improved to 2-0 on the season with the complete game win striking out 7.
Game 2: Fox Post 2 - 13, Delvets - 6:
Delaware Post 1 at Post 6 Patriots:
Game 1: Post 1- 6, Post 6 Patriots - 4: Post
6 Pitcher Steve Sharff was well in command on the mound until
he developed a blister on his pitching hand in the 6th inning. Sharff
did hit a 340 ft Home Run to Left, and Matt Parker also doubled and
scored twice.
But the Post 1 batters took advantage of Sharff's injury to pound out 6
runs in the top of the 6th to take the lead scoring on a series of
walks and singles. Alex Riley chalked up 8 strikeouts in 5 innings, Alex Cini picked up the save. Sharff left with 4 strikeouts.
Game 2: Post 1 - 12, Post 6 Patriots - 5: Seth Hastings gave up 6 runs in the first inning, due to a lack of
ball control. Eric Sharff came in and pitched 4 innings of shutout ball
with 8 strikouts before tiring in the 6th. Steve Sharff doubled and
tripled in the game, Chad Sturgeon had the only other extra base hit.
Post 1 spread their hitting and scoring across the entire lineup. Matt
Francisco was 2 for 5, Alex Riley, 3 for 4, Kevin Flanigan batted 3 for
4 with 3 runs scored and Tom Crist hit 3 for 5. Bill Crowe and Crist
had 2 RBI's each.
Single games:
Post 25 Middletown Firehawks - 16, VFW Post 3420 7: Post 25 came
out strong in the first two innings by scoring six runs, but VFW battled back
by putting up seven runs of their own to tie the score in the bottom of the
third. A three-run homer in the fourth inning by Andrew Fortner gave Post 25
the lead, which they maintained for the remainder of the afternoon. Fortner also Doubled in the game, Ryan
Gerlitz and Rob Spence each scored three times for Post 25, Spence also doubled, while Wayne Leonard
and Dennis Massari each scored twice for Christiana-Glasgow. E. Stein tripled for Post 25.
Newark - 3, Stahl Post 30 - 1:Jordan Oncay pitched a complete
game allowing one run on four hits, striking out eight and walking two.
Oncay got the Newark scoring started in the first inning with a double and scored
on a triple by Andrew Bentley. Andrew Young was safe on an error driving in Bentley.
After a strike-out and a walk to Evan Zechman, Kevin O’Connor was safe on an
error by the shortstop to close out the Newark scoring. Stahl Post
scored in the fifth on a walk to Tyler Fortuna a two-out single
by DJ Wood and an RBI single by Heath Johnson. Alex Woods and Bill
Morton each had a pair of singles for Newark while Oncay went three for three at
the plate and notched his second complete
game victory in a row. |
