Want to know more about Delaware American Legion Baseball?
Winter Meeting - Feb 18thand we're headed to a new location - the Post 25 building in downtown Odessa. Here's a link to the Google Map
We'll have instructions for the new registration system, a "straw man
schedule," and information on possible new teams. Mark V will also like
to discuss the Firecracker Showcase scheduled for July 4th weekend.
Every team that expects to play in 2010 should have someone from the
team attend. Legionaires who also are interested in Legion Baseball are
invited to attend.
Yes, its 2010 already.... and here's a sobering thought...
By
this time in June - in 4 months, we'll be into our 2nd week of baseball
playing game on this field (Seaford HS - Home of the Patriots)

Merrill Yocum steps down
Former
State Baseball Committee Chairman and present committee member Merrill
Yocum has resigned from the committee citing personal and work
conflicts.
Merrill stepped into the chairmanship of American Legion Baseball in 2006
following a serious illness to then chairman Bobby Stevens. He served
as chairman for one year, ran two state tournaments (2005-06), and is one of
those who worked tirelessly to get the Delaware Program operating
strictly within the rules and guidelines of the National program.
"A former umpire, Merrill's knowledge of the game, and the operation of
tournaments was a big reason our last three state tournaments ran so
well," said State Chairman Roy Lamberton. "He will be missed."
The resignation leaves an opening on the Delaware American Legion
Baseball Committee - any active American Legion members interested
in the position should contact the chairman - Roy S Lamberton at albaseball@delegion.org
Upcoming Events:
Every team must register on the new American Legion Baseball Site: http://www.legion.org/baseball.

Post 25's Eric Husni Named Scholarship Winner
This exerpt from his letter of recommendation says it all:
... While attending Middletown High School, he regularly worked with
learning-disabled students, and performed other community service as part of his
membership in the National Honor Society. He ranked 85 in a class of 558
graduating students. Eric also assisted seniors at local retirement facilities,
has participated in charitable events such as the MS Walk and the Relay for
Life, and continues to work with younger kids during the summer at the Cecil
College youth baseball camp. In addition, he also works a part-time job.
Eric will attend Cecil College (Northeast, Maryland) in September where he will play
baseball in the fall and spring, then return to our Post 25 team for his final
year of eligibility with American Legion Baseball. I know he will bring
the same values to his college team, as he brings to ours. Whether it’s
practices, pre-game, game, or post-game, Eric’s attitude is always exemplary.
He is a role model to the other players with his quiet demeanor, and
lead-by-example attitude. In the face of disagreements or bantering, Eric
always takes the high road to smooth over such situations, which is a credit to
the team, and a testimony to his maturity.
Congratualtions to Eric - he was an easy choice from among some outstanding candidates!
The Delaware American Legion recommends one player from the league for this award, given by the National American Legion
2010 Season Player Eligibility: ALB competition in 2010 is open only to players born on or after January 1, 1991.
Clarification - Any player born in 1990 is NOT eligible to play ALB.
Players in college who meet our age deadline shall be eligible for the
2010 season. Players in college must play for previous Legion team.
